Organizing Donation Offers and Collection

If your hospital has a website for donations, please email GHA's Jeff Sunderland and he will have it listed on Health Connect South's directory of health care entities requesting donations.

University of Pennsylvania COVID Hospital Census Modeling Tool

The CHIME App (COVID Hospital Impact Model for Epidemics) was developed by the University of Pennsylvania and is available to all hospitals in an open-source format. It is designed to assist hospitals and public health officials with understanding hospital capacity needs as they relate to the COVID-19 pandemic. CHIME enables capacity planning by providing estimates of total daily (i.e., new) and running totals of (i.e., census) inpatient hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and patients requiring ventilation. Here are items hospitals could customize based on their experience:

  • Total regional population
  • Market share of that population
  • Regional COVID-19 infections
  • Number of currently hospitalized COVID-19 patients

Other factors hospitals could change to model experience or they could use the developers’ data.

  • Infection rate
  • ICU rate
  • Ventilated patients
  • Length of stay (Hospital, ICU, Vent)

Hospitals could then determine their needs and when a peak may occur. Click here for the supporting documentation.  Hospitals can download the source code and create their own model.

Child Care Needs

GHA is working with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) to coordinate efforts to provide childcare for first responders and other healthcare professionals . DECAL funds a call center, which has up-to-date information on availability, to support families in looking for available child care. During the current COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, the call center can provide additional support to hospital staff and other first responders and can contact programs directly.

Call 1-877-ALL GA KIDS (1-877-255-4254). For employers seeking child care options for 25 or more staff, call 470-426-2610 for direct support.
