Georgia Hospitals' Economic Impact

In 2021, hospitals spent more than $33.3 billion to serve communities, according to the latest Georgia Hospital Association report. These expenditures generated an estimated $75.9 billion in state and local economic activity, which translates to $2.28 for every $1 of hospital expenditures. The report also shows that:

  • Hospitals spent $15.2 billion in salaries, generating $30.3 billion in household earnings.
  • Hospitals spent $2.2 billion in contract labor.
  • Hospitals created 156,681 full-time jobs. Applying an employment multiplier to this number reveals 394,553 other full-times jobs created due to the existence of hospitals.
