PHA Obesity
& Physical Activity Initiative
According to the Georgia Division of Public Health, 59.4% of adult
Georgians surveyed in 2001 as part of the Behavioral Risk Factor
Surveillance System (BRFSS) were either overweight (25.0 < Body
Mass Index < 29.9) or obese (BMI > 30.0).
Please use the resources to help guide you in your efforts to
live healthy and become an active member of your health care team.
Cancer
According to the Georgia Cancer Data Report 2000, cancer is the
second leading cause of death in this state, accounting for one
in four deaths each year. Cancers of the lung, breast, prostate,
and colon-rectum account for 54 percent of our state's cancer
deaths. Unless current trends are reversed, one in two Georgia
men and one in three Georgia women will develop cancer in their
lifetime.
